When news broke of U.S. Army POW Bowe Bergdahl’s release this past Memorial Day weekend, many people wondered about what goes on behind-the-scenes to bring an American service member home. War Reporter, Alex Quade, shares her experiences covering Special Operations Forces who perform Combat Search & Rescue behind enemy lines. Alex originally did a six-part special series for CNN a few years ago, on PJs (pararescuemen) and SERE (Survival Evasion Resistance & Escape) — which U.S. troops, especially pilots, go through to try to avoid capture by the enemy. Our editorial team thought Alex’s background piece was very timely information, in light of the recent news about POW Bowe Bergdahl.
